“Diplomacy Through the Ages: the Legacy of Soft Power”
Echoing sentiments from this year’s theme surrounding mentorship, YMUN’s second annual Essay Contest prompt is “Diplomacy Through the Ages: the Legacy of Soft Power.”
For this prompt, analyze and explain the significance of one or more examples from recent history that illustrate a change in the way soft power is used, and how the example made diplomacy change. You may, and are encouraged to, define key terms and ideas in your response, as well as determine the scope and significance of your investigation. Example topics include: the Cold War, The Gulf War, presidential elections, or globalization. You should be creative in your research, cite your sources, and submit your piece in a timely fashion.
Any delegate who plans to attend YMUN may submit an essay; however, only delegates who are registered and confirmed as attending will have their submissions judged.
Submissions must be no longer than 1,000 words in length, typed in English. Submissions should be double-spaced, 12 point font, and double-spaced.
Submissions must be the delegate’s own original work. Any outside sources used (i.e. quotations, statistics, the writing of other authors) must be appropriately cited using MLA format.
All submissions must be sent through this Google Form
Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and will close December 5, 2019 at 11:59 Eastern Standard Time. Winners of the contest will be announced at the opening ceremonies of YMUN XLVI.
