YMUN Frequently Asked Questions
I am under 18. Can I attend YMUN without an advisor?
YMUN does not allow delegates under the age of 18 to attend without an advisor. An advisor can be any adult or guardian over the age of 18. This includes parents, teachers, or club advisors.
I am under 19 and/or a student in college. Can I attend YMUN?
Unfortunately, only delegates 18 and under may attend YMUN. We encourage all undergraduate delegates to attend Yale’s collegiate conference, SECSY, in the fall. You can find more information at secsy.org.
Do I need to be proficient in English to attend YMUN?
YMUN is a strictly English-speaking conference with the exception of our Spanish-speaking committee (CELAC). If you are nervous about your English experience, you can take our English Language Supplement to test your proficiency.
Is there an option to attend YMUN virtually?
Yes, YMUN offers three virtual committees—one GA and two ECOSOCs. Delegations who cannot attend YMUN in-person are highly encouraged to sign up! It costs $30 per delegate to compete.
How do I register for YMUN?
Registration for YMUN occurs on our registration platform, found on our Registration page. Registration for YMUN LIII will open on June 15, 2026. To begin the registration process, click “Sign Up.”
When are registration fees due?
To hold your spot on the registration list, 20% of your total registration fees are due on or before October 9th. All delegation fees are due on November 1st to attend YMUN. Failure to meet both of these deadlines will result in losing your spot on the registration list.
How much does YMUN cost, and is financial aid available?
YMUN charges $90 for every delegate and $70 for every advisor. We never want financial barriers to prohibit delegations from attending YMUN, and encourage all delegations with demonstrated need to apply for financial aid. You can learn more at ymun.org/fees-financial-aid. The financial aid application is available on the conference registration platform.
How much financial aid will I receive?
Financial aid applications are evaluated holistically, and YMUN cannot guarantee that any delegation will receive financial aid. Successful financial aid recipients will receive a waiver, in whole or in part, for fees billed by YMUN. You may also apply for stipends for travel and accomodations.
How can I pay my registration fee?
YMUN accepts online payments through stripe, check payments, and wire transfers. You must include your check case number on the memo line to avoid delays to registration.
How do I get to New Haven?
Delegates are responsible for their own travel to and from Yale’s campus. Learn more here.
Where can I stay in New Haven?
We have partnered with seven New Haven hotels to offer reduced rates for rooms on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more at ymun.org/hotels.
Can YMUN offer support for visa applications?
YMUN can issue international delegations and international independent delegates visa letters to endorse their application for a visa to visit the United States at their local consulate. Visa letters are issued upon full payment of conference fees. Please contact international@ymun.org to request a visa letter.
Why should I attend YMUN?
YMUN is one of the world’s premier high school Model UN conferences and the largest to occur on an Ivy League campus. Each year, delegates describe YMUN as a transformative experience that allows them to engage with peers from all over the world, debate complex and important global issues, and experience one of the most historic and beautiful college campuses in the world.
Highlights of YMUN LIII include:
A wide variety of committees with topics covering every area of interest that take place in Yale classrooms and are chaired by Yale students
Yale Day, a unique-to-YMUN event where delegates can attend lectures from Yale professors, watch performances from Yale student groups, and engage with Yale students
Exploring Yale’s historic campus and museums in New Haven, CT
And more!
