Global Exchange Program

The Global Exchange Program takes place during Yale Day and is a unique opportunity for delegates to engage directly with Yale’s world-class global affairs and international relations faculty. In order to facilitate thoughtful discussion with professors and other delegates, the program requires an application. Delegates accepted to the program will attend a day of college-level, seminar-style lessons on the GEP Theme led by Yale professors.

Diplomacy through Dialogue: The Search for Understanding

Diplomacy starts and ends with communication. Whether through formal negotiations, public statements, or quiet acts of listening, diplomacy depends on the ability of state actors to communicate their differences and seek compromise. Diplomats must do more than articulate their own interests; they must listen to competing perspectives, navigate cultural and historical differences, and find ways to create mutual understanding even when agreement seems out of reach. In an increasingly divided world, the ability to communicate across lines of disagreement has become one of the most essential skills for emerging global leaders.

This year’s Global Exchange Program invites delegates to consider the role of communication and dialogue in diplomacy and to explore how meaningful engagement can shape international relations. Through small seminars with Yale faculty, participants will examine the power of dialogue in international affairs, the challenges of communicating across cultural and political divides, and the ways diplomats use conversation, negotiation, and compromise to transform competing interests into shared solutions. Delegates will consider not only how diplomacy communicates ideas, but how dialogue itself can create space for understanding, cooperation, and agreement.

Applications are due by 11:59 EST on December 11, 2026.
