Inclusivity at YMUN:
CREATING A MORE ACCESSIBLE CONFERENCE
YMUN has always focused on education, with the intention of bringing delegates together to learn from each other and the Yale community. The world is ever-changing; we have witnessed a global pandemic, the breakout of a new war in Eastern Europe, increasing threats due to climate change, and unprecedented economic crises. In 2023, we held the first in person YMUN since 2020. Now, we hope to push the boundary on what is possible, celebrating 50 years of YMUN with the best conference to date.
As we look to increasing the number of delegates, we recognize that our conference will host a wide assortment of views. Each delegate brings their own set of values, beliefs, and viewpoints. With today’s polarization, the world is often unwilling to listen to differing opinions. YMUN is seeking to create a space where the opposite is true. Successful delegates will need to communicate, compromise, and consider all sides when making diplomatic decisions. At YMUN, we will encourage discourse and encourage delegates to be better, more flexible global citizens.
Our Yale Day and GEP events will highlight these themes as well, with speakers and student groups representing a diversity of backgrounds with diverse opinions. We encourage delegates to form stronger and more lasting connections with each other and members of the Yale community. This can be in spite of differing backgrounds or ideas.
Our hope is that when we bring our global network of delegates back together in person, we will see new and improved discourse. When our delegates return home, they will have learned the value in diversity of opinion and will apply these values when tackling issues in their own communities. The YMUN 50 Secretariat is looking forward to an incredible conference through which we can prepare delegates to tackle problems in our complex world.
